Who Wants to Play Battleship: A-10 Recap

This is long overdue....MY BAD!

It was a wet and gloomy morning for the 37th Annapolis 10 Mile Run.  Contrary to previous years, the temperature was in the low 70s, but the sticky air made it feel warmer.  Those who didn't bring an umbrella to get from their car to the packet pickup tent were in for a shower, courtesy of Mother Nature.  Around 7:15am, people began emerging from their cars and doing a warmup run to get the blood flowing and the legs moving.  Madison and I took off away from the Stadium and into the adjacent neighborhood.  We both returned soaked to the bone.  Fortunately, neither of us had worn our racing flats so we would be able to hit the start line with dry shoes.  I noticed several other runners who didn't plan ahead quite as well.

As a team, I would say that this was argubly our strongest performance of 2012.  Andrew Madison took off from the starting gun and never looked back, leading the race from start to finish.  Everyone's favorite master, Jason Tripp, allegedly ran a good race, though he forgot to wear his timing chip and all evidence of his participation was erased.  He will tell you that he ran 59:XX.  Only 6 days after crossing the Leadville 100 finish line, Keith Levasseur ran an incredible 61:01, good for 3rd in his age group.  Dr. Kent Werner made his return to the racing scene, clocking a 61:54.  It's nice to know those 100 hour work weeks aren't killing him (literally).  Weems McFadden also made his return.  I believe this was his first race of 2012; he ran 68:09.

On the women's side, the theme was simple: AGE GROUP WINNERS.  Kelly Westlake ran superb, finishing 3rd overall in 65:02.  Not far behind, UnSong Ostrowski, battling an aching calf, finished 6th and 1st in her age group with a 65:31.  Robyn Humphrey grabbed 1st Master honors, running 68:03 for 7th overall.  Finally, Donna Wecker, also returning from a long layoff due to injury, broke 70 minutes, 69:51 to be exact, winning the 50-54 age group.

Great job to everyone!  A summary of the results:

Andrew Madison 55:08 1st
